It’s hard to believe that the Bowl of Plenty has been running now for nearly 3 years!
It all started after Mitch, former Popla owner, approached us about running a Community meal. As we were already thinking about it, we were very quick to jump on board and after a call out for volunteers; Bellingen Neighbourhood Centre was ready to open the door at the end of July 2018.
Our aim was to reduce food waste and to bring the community together with a warm, nourishing meal and companionship. And guess what: over 1600 meals have been served at the Bowl of Plenty community meal held every 2nd and 4th Wednesday of the month here in Bellingen and for the last few months, every 1st Wednesday of the month in Urunga. Plus, 1100 frozen meals which are available most of the days at Bellingen! That’s pretty amazing hey… and this has only been able to happen because of our amazing community.
On that note, a big shout out and huge thank you to: Oz Harvest, their volunteers delivering us ingredients for the meals every week. The Swiss Patisserie and the Urunga Country Oven Bakery, they donate the bread. Community members, they support us with their time, financially and food. A special thanks to our regular chefs Mitch, Anne, Lindsey and Yamuna and our other cooks in between and to the set-up, serve and clean-up crew: Alison, Wayne, Gayle, Gabi and Laura. They make sure that the tables are ready, meal is hot and the room is clean again after the meal. The Citizen Centre Committee for letting us use the room for free.
To everyone who helped out over the years, we appreciate you. Without all of you, our Neighbourhood Centres would not be able to run the Bowl of Plenty so successfully.
