Recyclables Collected
Fifteen willing workers started at 8am & by 9:30 the road was free of rubbish so they moved onto the roadside on Dome Road out to Dorrigo National Park.
Thanks to the Dorrigo Works Department of Bellingen Shire for slashing the roadside to make it safer & much easier to see the rubbish. They also collected the bulk rubbish after we’d sorted out the recyclable material.
“We noted there were less cans & bottles & also cigarette butts this year along the roadside. Unfortunately people must be still drinking alcohol & alcohol mixes as they drive. Also a lot of energy drink cans,” said Ruth.
However, the worst pick up was 6 full disposable nappies!
The Landcare Group hope that by next year Bellingen Shire will have removed the Privet & Honeysuckle along the roadside, which would make it easier for the volunteers. If a roadside is kept clean & well maintained less rubbish seems to be thrown out of vehicles.

At the end of the day- Ruth Holmes with bagged rubbish ready for Council pick-up.
After the event the group enjoyed a cuppa from Components Cafe & filled in the extensive survey for Clean Up Australia & Sam Tate Waste Management Officer for Bellingen Shire.
