Dorrigo Show 2021- Definitely A Goer!

Dorrigo Show is definitely going ahead in 2020 over the weekend of November 27 and 28 with a real focus this year on women in the show.

Understand, it’s for real: there will be a Dorrigo Show in 2021 and it will be a great one!

After being forced, by Covid 19, to abandon the 2020 show the supervising committee is committed to making up for the two year break and has committed to the weekend of November 27-28 for this year’s exhibition.

During the show’s 109 years it has been cancelled only three other times, including 1942 and 1943, the darkest days of World War II.

The major highlight this year will be an intense focus on the Role of Women in Agriculture, featuring women judges in all women’s sections, a major first for Dorrigo.

Dorrigo Show is definitely going ahead in 2020 over the weekend of November 27 and 28 with a real focus this year on women in the show.“Women, always, have played a major role in Australian agriculture,” committee President, Sally Duckett said yesterday. “It is important to emphasise that this role of women has always gone far beyond domestic chores, indoors.”

“Nowadays it is not unusual to find women owning and running extensive properties across Australia or playing major roles in partnership with men. But this is not new. A glimpse at Australian history clearly demonstrates that women have contributed in these ways since the middle of the 19th century.”

“Likewise we see women at the fore in areas such as cattle and horse breeding, competition in the ring and skills involving the use and maintenance of heavy equipment.  A visit to the current Sydney Royal Easter Show will confirm the prominence of women on the land.”

The recent annual meeting of Dorrigo Show Society elected its senior management committee for the coming year:

President – Sally Duckett  ( 13th year )

Secretary – Christine Dacron

Treasurer – Alison Clements

Vice Presidents – Bob Hawkins, Greg Tyler, Alexander Fraser

Sally Duckett has asked that men, and especially women, who have volunteered as stewards at previous shows might seriously consider returning this year.

“We would love to see you back and it would be helpful if you were able to make that commitment, to the committee, as early as possible”, Sally said.

“I ask all plateau residents and those interested in our show to keep abreast of plans, developments and any possible rules involving Covid 19 by regularly checking our  website at: https://www.dorrigoshow.com
