2BBB Open Day – 35 years of Radio Broadcasting
September 30, 2018 @ 9:00 am - 2:00 pmFREE
AFTER 35 YEARS THE Bs ARE STILL BUZZING!
On September 9th local community radio station, 2 Triple B FM will chalk up 35 years on air.
Although there were a range of test broadcasts in the years leading up to the station getting its broadcast licence, it officially came became part of the Bellinger Shire landscape in September 1983.
To mark the milestone, during the month of September Triple B will be running history spots across the day, every day. Some of these feature audio from the archives and others are random recollections from some of the early movers and shakers at the station.
Interviews with the likes of founder, Stephen Abell, legendary announcer/trainer, Dorin Hart and evergreen presenter, “Googs” Goddard have produced some lovely yarns that tell of the ups and downs of establishing – and broadcasting from – the world’s only mudbrick radio station. There are tales, too, of the tensions in the Shire back in the day between the “new” and “old” settlers – tensions that 2 Triple B FM set out to heal.
At the end of the month the station is inviting listeners from the Shire and surrounds to celebrate at Triple B’s Open Day. Between 9am-2pm on Sunday 30th of September the doors to the glorious mudbrick station in Wheatley St Bellingen will be thrown open allowing a peek inside.
Listeners will be able meet presenters, tour the studios, check out the CD library and enjoy live music and a sausage sizzle on the gorgeous back verandah. You can even record a Triple B message that will later be used on air!
In an era of media increasingly being “from somewhere else” don’t miss this rare opportunity to get involved and celebrate with your local community radio station.
