|Recurring Event (See all)

An event every week that begins at 5:00 pm on Tuesday, repeating until April 27, 2021

Bellingen Museum will be hosting a historical walk around Bellingen on April, 6th, 13th, 20th and 27th starting at 5pm Bellingen Museum. Walk back in time down Bellingen’s main street. Due to a landlocked issue with the then main town of Fernmount a new settlement up-river at Boat Harbour developed with the building of the new Court House and Police Station. Most government buildings were then moved to Bellingen and in 1870 Boat Harbour was proclaimed a village and the name changed to Bellingen. At the beginning of the 20th Century Bellingen boasted five banks, hotels, butter factory, cordial factory and a large department store called “Hammond and Wheatley”. Most businesses, school, police station, courthouse and hotels were in Hyde Street and many of these buildings are still standing. Join our heritage stroll along Hyde Street to discover the history of this iconic town.
Bellingen Shire Heritage walk leaves from the bellingen museum.
