Let’s Get Together on the Dorrigo Plateau- A Great Success

Was I pleased to see the sun on Sunday! Our Dorrigo Suicide Prevention Committee has been waiting a year to have a Thank You & Lets Get Together for our community who suffered so much in the 2019/20 Drought & Bushfires. It finally happened yesterday on “National Neighbour Day” at Dorrigo Showground.  (Main photo credit Lou Walpole).

As well as the sun and beautiful Sunflowers in cream cans to brighten up the event, our Resilient leader Celeste and Bruce from Neighbourhood Centres of Bellingen surprised us by travelling up the Eastern Dorrigo road through Cascade to join us on the day!

What a fabulous day of music, fellowship, story-telling, Whip-cracking, talking to each other and knowing there is support in the community if you need help.

Two of our Dorrigo Icons who were volunteer Fire fighters & supporters for their Deervale & Tyringham/Bostobrick areas. Leonie Wright & Dorothy Foster.

We were so proud of how it all came together on the day.  Just to see the joy on the faces of the people as they had their picnic lunch and seeing the children dancing to the music & having a great time with their family & friends made it all worthwhile.

The Dorrigo people are now having another tough time with multiple landslides blocking our access down Dorrigo Mountain on Waterfall Way.

The day helped us remember the past but also helped us in our time of need now.

Thanks to Bellingen Shire for a Bushfire Grant plus other sponsors & Volunteers who made this day possible. A number of people said “We should do this more often!”

Can only concur with my learned colleague, it was a fabulous day and well worth all the effort that went into it. Sunshine, music, community and a wonderful picnic space – thankyou to all who attended and enjoyed the day.

  • Hullo Suicide Prevention Committee – last year I had the privilege of coming and speaking with a group of residents interested in hearing more about suicide prevention. It was inspiring to note the enthusiasm of the group to support their community. I see from the report of The Let’s Get Together Day that this spirit continues and that is wonderful. Please remember that if there is anything further I can do to support you further you please call me. I can be best reached on my mobile: 0408 285 286
