Alchemy of Bellingen sets the benchmark for local business

Amidst the current sense of chaos and uncertainty, there is a shining light. Setting the standard for quality service, peer support and working together for the common good of their valued clientele, the team at Alchemy of Bellingen is a paragon of excellence, loyalty and collaboration.

“We have been blessed to have so many amazing practitioners working here, each with their own loyal following, while supporting each other and the business.  Sarah Simpson Goff, Emma Porter and Phil Thornton have been practising at the clinic for over 8 years or more.  We see them as the practice elders, providing guidance and stability,” says owner, operator Jo Plater.

Alchemy of Bellingen has bought and moved into a new premise at 5 Hyde Street Bellingen, but that is just the first step in the grand plans for Alchemy.

New premise 5 Hyde Street Bellingen

The business has bought and moved into a new premise at 5 Hyde Street Bellingen, but that is just the first step in the grand plans for Alchemy. “We always wanted to buy a premise we could develop into the best holistic wellness centre and day spa between the Central Coast and the Queensland Border,” says Jo.  Grand plans indeed!!

Jo and husband Elliot have been able to merge their many varied skills to ensure the sustainability and growth of Alchemy.  “I was a supermarket manager up until three years ago,” says Elliot.  “I’m used to managing staff and dealing with issues.  The only customers I had contact with were those with a complaint.  Disgruntled clients are now a thing of the past.  These days I’m surrounded by happy, ‘Zenned-out’ customers and I love it.”

Elliot has made the move from Supermarket Store Manager to Colonic Irrigation- quite a move!  “I’m pretty adaptable,” he says.  Jo’ s background is in Clairvoyant and Energy Healing, Chakra Balancing and beauty products. “I’m in my element working in Bellingen,”  she says.

The pair have set a target of 12 months to the opening of the day spa, which will feature refillable magnesium spas, aromatherapy baths and a ‘Zen’ area for relaxation with a herbal tea on completion of treatments, all within the huge existing backyard with river views. “We will be offering beauty and pamper packs and hope to capture those looking for group indulgences or ‘lifestyle’ Xmas parties.”

Despite voluntarily closing for six weeks during the Pandemic crisis, Alchemy is now running at 100% capacity with 15 therapists, including Osteopath Dylan Gordon, Chiropractor David Pham and Naturopath Cate McCrea as recent additions. Their online store is currently being built, to offer online sales and purchases.

Jo and Elliot have been at the helm of Alchemy for 3.5 years.  Right from the outset they realised the potential for our local wellness centre and are now well on towards making their dreams a reality.  “We aren’t going anywhere.  The community has embraced us and we plan to continue to deliver an amazing service.”
