With a concert program open to all, on Sunday afternoon the amazing Sandy Evans Quartet will be featuring Sandy Evans OAM (pictured above), the world renown Jazz Saxophonist and Composer, joined by local musicians Greg Sheehan (Drum Kit & Percussion), Bobby Singh (Tablas), and Brett Hirst (Double Bass) from Sydney. Free workshops are open to youth aged 12-25 from Regional NSW on Saturday 10 July 2021.

  • Rhythm with Greg Sheehan – 10:00-11:45
  • Harmony with Oscar Eager – 12:00-1:45
  • Improvisation with Sandy Evans – 2:45-4:00

All youth musicians and close family and friends are invited to the free Saturday Night Jam Circle, arranged in the round, to create an informal atmosphere so that the less experienced musicians feel more confident to participate. Sandy Evans will be available to give youth bands feedback on Sunday morning, open for both experienced and newly formed ensembles as an opportunity to gain feedback and mentoring to improve their performance skills.

Greg Sheehan

We’re so lucky that we have such awesome musicians living right here in Bellingen and the surrounding region. Greg Sheehan says, “I’m really excited to be performing and running a workshop at the Bellingen Improvised Music Festival. I’m excited and thrilled to be playing with the awesome saxophonist and composer Sandy Evans as percussionist in her band! I love to teach rhythm as well and have some decades of improvising skills and tricks to impart… So, come along for the ride!”

The Bellingen Improvised Music Collective Inc particularly wish to encourage young people who are already on their improvisation journey. We will be ensuring there is a supportive environment for them to explore their musicality and creativity. BIMC was incorporated in 2019 as a revitalisation of the former Bellingen Jazz Society, to support the creation and performance of original and improvised music in the Bellingen Shire and surrounds. This project is supported by the NSW Government through Create NSW.
